  • IDT’s Tribute to the Weavers on National Handloom Day!

Surat, Aug 7: India is the only country that still creates textiles coming from the genius of its master weavers having a great combination of creativity, focus, patience and concentration. Despite such obvious and impressive strengths, India has not been able to ensure sustainable and satisfactory livelihoods for handloom weavers.
Hence, with an objective to encourage the artistry of the weavers, acknowledge their contribution & augment their pride in representing the Indian textile culture, the first-year students of IDT have crafted a 3*2.5 ft handmade loom using cardboard & jute ropes & have tried to weave a piece of fabric with colourful yarns. Its display was conducted at a city-based designer clothing store, Asar Graceful Lifestyles. The entire process was a 2-day affair under the mentorship of Ms. Aarushi Upreti and the students correlated with the efforts, the hard work & sweat put in by the craftsmen while creating masterpieces.

The director of IDT, Mr. Anupam Goyal addressed, “We always talk about crafts & beauty of the final garment but we never talk about the problems faced by the craftsmen, like long work hours and strenuous activities put weavers at risk for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), predominantly low back pain, etc. The handloom industry is the second biggest income generating source in India after agriculture. This Industry can generate and sustain employment for millions of people. Also, in these days of energy crisis and global warming, it is essential to encourage the eco-friendly handloom industry. Hence we urge the government to focus on strengthening the existing skills of the weavers of India!”
This handloom day, let us aim to protect this heritage and keep alive the richness and diversity of our country.

  • The New Contagion

Kolkata, Aug 7: The world has shaken us to awaken us. We have all witnessed the power of a tiny virus known as Corona. At the same time, we have also witnessed the power of another tiny virus. Kindness. Almost as contagious.

We have seen doctors, nurses, frontline workers, and social workers put their own lives at risk to save the lives of so many others.

An interesting question comes up here. Without even putting our lives at risk, if there were a way to save eight lives, or give vision to six people, then why would we not?

Until recently, there was no hope for those suffering from end-stage organ failure. Neither were there any poetic crimson sunrises or golden sunsets for those who knew only one colour: black? And then yes, a solution was found. The ‘vaccine’ was found. Yes, it took years of research and hard work. It was called Organ Donation. A miracle of medical science. A medical landing on the moon.

At a time when the world was praying for the COVID vaccine, how would it be if, now, after we have the vaccine, people continued to die simply because they refused to make use of it?

While we have been discussing daily figures of fatalities due to COVID in the last year, let us be informed that five lakh lives are lost in India every year due to organ failure.

While we say ‘yes’ to the COVID vaccine to save our own lives, let us say ‘yes’ to Organ Donation too – a vaccine that can help save lives of others.

Let us take this as our national duty.

Let us pledge to be Organ Donor today.

Let us usher in the contagion of Kindness.

    Shruti Mohta

Shruti Mohta is a crusader for organ donation, spreading awareness since 2017, and is the founder of the Live Kingsize Die Kingsize Foundation. The foundation has some of the leading transplant doctors of India and also enjoys the support of eminent persons from the fields of music, dance, theatre, sports and business.

A TEDx speaker, Shruti has been invited by several prestigious organisations, educational institutions and hospitals to give awareness talks.  She has also been promoting awareness through newspapers, radio, television and social media, receiving hundreds of pledges.

Her dream is that in a few years no one dies for want of an organ.

A campaign has been planned for World Organ Donation Day on 13 August. Personalities like Kapil Dev, Usha Uthup, Shiamak Davar, NityanandaCharan Das of ISKCON, actress Bhagyashree, author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, and several others have already sent their own pledge videos which will help to motivate and inspire many towards this life-saving cause.

Shruti will be leading a panel discussion on 12th August at 8 PM IST, with some of the leading transplant doctors of the country, the Jt.Director of ROTTO, and other experts. This will be streamed live on the FB pages of the LKDK Foundation as well as PRSI, Kolkata Chapter. All are welcome to join this informative session.

From 15th Aug, Rohit is launching a new series of “Affordable Photography PRO Tutorials” where he will be teaching the young enthusiast how to do photography like a PRO through affordable methods and their mobiles, no matter it’s a luxury iPhone or a simple below 10k budget Android mobile.

Rohit who learnt Fashion Photography from Praveen Bhatt Photography, leading Bollywood Fashion Photographer, learnt in-depth Wild Life Photography techniques from Mr. Chandrakanth Kamath and attended a Wildlife photography workshop organized by Nikon School India. Being in limelight for 7 years, so how does he keep himself inspired? Rohit replied, “the love for capturing moments in images keeps me motivated. The Art of saving a lovely moment forever is what gives me passion on daily basis”.

On asking what motivated him to start such a nice imitative, Rohit replied, “I remember two years back while I was a guest speaker at a seminar held by CT institute, I met many students who were fans of my work & I talked to a student who was so deeply passionate for photography and capturing moments but wasn’t able to afford a good camera or high-end smartphone. At that particular moment, it struck my heart that I have to do something about this problem because talent & passion can never be replaced by money. So I started brainstorming on where we are today.”

“I want to create a channel where talent wins over money bars, where your passion and enthusiasm is enough for you to click PRO photographs and capture those moments instead of the need for high-end costly equipment. After all your passion and hard work drives your success. And rest for the techniques, I am there to teach tricks and hacks via my Affordable Photography PRO Tutorials,” Rohit mentioned.

Over the years, Rohit came forward as a Mentor & Inspiration for Young Enthusiasts & a new generation of Photographers & Multimedia experts. So, when asked what he thinks about the title of “Photographer with Magical Touch” Rohit added, “I don’t even think about it. I am from a humble middle-class family & have been taught humbleness ever since I was a kid. In fact, my grandpa always used to say, focussing on stars while keeping your feet on the ground should be the motto of your life”.

Along with his Magical touch title and being a mentor to the new generation, Rohit is also a passionate contributor to Animal Welfare. Being a big-time animal lover, he is Vice President of an NGO, Raahat for Stray Animals (relief for stray animals) where they work hard to feed, treat & vaccinate stray animals at the national level. Rohit himself has adopted an Indian mix breed who was abandoned as a kid. Talking about his passion for animal welfare Rohit says, “I believe in one mantra – Who feeds a hungry animal feeds his own soul. If I could, I will adopt all stray animals of the world and keep them with me forever. I request everyone to adopt one stray animal & feed them daily & no animal will die of hunger. We all should unite together to take care of animals as they have equal rights on earth as we have.”

On his upcoming venture, Rohit said he is very excited for the launch and is hoping to help young enthusiasts around the world to help with their dreams & passion of being able to click PRO & unique photographs with their smartphones only that too without spending a hefty amount on high-end equipment. We wish Rohit good luck with his new venture.

  • AirPets comes to the rescue of pet owner, saves cat from being deported to Russia

The pet relocation experts helped bring an end to a five-day ordeal faced by a cat owner.

New Delhi: AirPets Relocation Services, a leading pet shipping services provider, has come to the aid of an Indian pet owner by helping him deal with the bureaucratic red tape and preventing his pet cat from being deported to Russia.

The nightmare began for Rohit Sarkar, an Indian student who had spent six years in Russia, when he landed in New Delhi on July 28 with his cat Ufi, who he was taking care of for five years since rescuing it from the streets.

Having completed his studies in Russia, Rohit decided to bring Ufi with him to India. However, customs authorities at the airport refused to allow the pet to leave the customs area in the absence of a no-objection certificate from the Animal Quarantine and Certification Services (AQCS) and a negative RT-PCR test report.

Rohit could get a negative RT-PCR test for Ufi after contacting a veterinary doctor, but he couldn’t get a NOC in the absence of the cat’s old vaccination records.

After four days of running around from one place to another without much luck, and the threat of Ufi likely to be deported back to Russia growing by the day, Rohit got in touch with AirPets, India’s most trusted pet relocation service provider, and sought their assistance in the matter.

“AirPets’ people gained access to Ufi and administered her the booster doses required for getting the NOC. I was soon given the NOC, and I could secure Ufi’s release from customs authorities. I do not have enough words to thank Team AirPets for helping me through the entire process and ensuring Ufi was not separated from me,” said an elated Rohit.

Rohit described the five-day ordeal as a “total nightmare” and said, “I wish no pet parent has to go through it.”

“The need of the hour is for the country to introduce more animal-friendly policies and processes and to deploy compassionate officials on such posts,” he added.

AirPets, which has provided international pet relocation services for almost a decade, is headquartered in New Delhi and operates from five major airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The company provides the necessary guidance, paperwork, certification, vaccination, and veterinary assistance under one roof.

  • Inspiring Service to the Environment & People of Varanasi

Varanasi, July 27: God’s world has innumerable wonders, riches, and diversities for us to enjoy and we human beings as a good practice need to preserve and better it. It would not be wrong to say that, people do see themselves as part of a larger society and aspire to help it. Some volunteer in the institutions of civil society such as charities, schools, associations, and local self-help groups. Some look after the needy in shelters, community help centers, and hospitals. They educate themselves and others about the issues and stand by the truth. They speak as eagerly as they listen, critique as well as solve.

One such good citizen that you would come across in the mystic and spiritual city of Varanasi is Dr. Ashok Kumar Sonkar. An Assistant Professor of History at the hallowed portals of Banaras Hindu University, Dr. Ashok Kumar Sonkar had a very humble beginning in the border region Paharia of Kashi. However, proving to be a living example of the adage “a man is a product of his environment but the strong man makes his own environment “he not only educated himself but also managed to teach at the same faculty where he got his education from.

A good citizen anywhere around the world is both patriotic toward his country and committed to his beliefs. Good citizens are shaped and cultivated by the history, art, and literature of their motherland and invested in the success of their communities.

Even when young and green behind the ears Dr. Ashok Kumar Sonkar was always thoughtful about the upliftment of his city and community. He actively advocated for the rights of the poor, uneducated, and Dalit community. For his commitment, dedication, and sincere efforts towards narrowing the gap between his fellow community people and prosperity he was adorned as the chairperson for the SC/ST students organizing committee in the year 2009-2010. He has actively campaigned for stalwarts like Murali Manohar Joshi during his college days and today for Mr. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi

Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh happened to him as he felt that it is Sangh and Sangh alone that endeavors towards the preservation of age-old culture and diversity and rich heritage of India. The conclusion came from the test done at the anvil of his being a student and having profound knowledge of ancient Indian History.

Today attaining a position of respect in the society has further emboldened Dr. Ashok Sonkar’s resolve to serve and to give back to the society he lives in. As a conscious citizen, he is continuously working towards bringing his very own Khatik community from Varanasi, Chandouli, and other nearby districts into the mainstream.

He is not a mere spectator or a mute facilitator but an active doer who has his ears to the ground and feet firmly placed in reality. He has started an active campaign about cleaning and upkeep of the ponds and other water bodies of the city of Varanasi. Every week he devoted one day to this noble cause. And like a good teacher that he is, he sets an example by cleaning, maintaining the areas around the water bodies. His noble actions have motivated many to give back to society.

The work of being a good citizen is never easy — it requires judgment, civility, and patience. When time and deliberations rise, laws are often amended to answer the needs of the people. In this contest, Dr. Ashok Sonkar believes that It is important to both obey the law and improve the law. Such reform should be done through acceptable means, with moral persuasion for the betterment of the whole.

Dr. Ashok Sonkar stands tall as a good Samaritan and yet is never forgetful of his humble beginnings of the lowest of the lowest strata of society.  A much-loved teacher, a much-admired achiever, a well-respected member, a committed Sangh worker Dr, Ashok Sonkar continues to dedicate himself and his work for the good of his community and society as a whole.

Rare are the people who protect and rejuvenate their environment selflessly, their deeds inspire may be very few but the dedication they bring says it all.

    Dr. Ashok Kumar Sonkar
