  • Khushi Fertility & IVF Centre Rules Out Mental Retardation in Babies

Bengaluru, Karnataka [India]: In a first-of-its-kind multidimensional IVF treatment in the country, Khushi Fertility and IVF Centre, a pioneering Bengaluru -based fertility centre specialising in the latest Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) implemented  Clinical Exome Sequencing (CES), Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) and Pre Implantation Genetic Screening (PGS)  procedures on the embryos of a patient after IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)  to rule out an inherited genetic disease arising from the inheritance of an abnormality in the parent’s gene.

36-year-old Pooja (Name Changed) was both terrified and hopeful of having a normal baby the second time. In 2017 at the age of 33, she had given birth to her first child who presented with several neurological symptoms and missed several developmental milestones

Like most of the women, Pooja was alarmed and scared to venture into motherhood again. She decided to seek answers to her problem before trying to be a mother once again. Genetic testing of her baby revealed an abnormality that caused his symptoms. She consulted Dr Preetha Tilak in Bangalore, who suggested she undergo a Carrier Screening test to check if she is the carrier of any genetic mutations. The test results revealed she was a heterozygous carrier for the L1CAM variant found in the first child.

In 2018, Pooja was pregnant again and went for a prenatal genetic test which revealed the fetus had the same genetic variant as the first baby and was likely to have a similar outcome. Due to this, the couple took the painful decision to go in for medical termination of the pregnancy. Her hope and fear of conceiving again intensified with the unfortunate loss of her son due to the genetic condition.

Pooja was devastated after losing her son and a pregnancy. However, it was at that point in her life, when she met Dr Rashmi Yogish at Khushi Fertility & IVF Centre for treatment.

After counselling the heartbroken couple, Dr Yogish gave Pooja a ray of hope to be able to birth a normal child. She advised IVF with PGT M and PGT A where the embryos would be screened. Here, only the normal embryos without genetic disorder are selected for embryo transfer and achieving pregnancy. Dr Yogish prescribed specific genetic tests, starting with Pre PGD workup of the couple and then Preimplantation  Genetic Diagnosis (PGD/ PGT-M) and Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS/PGT-A) on the embryos created by performing ICSI.

Dr Yogish and her team extracted oocytes from the first and second IVF cycles performed on Pooja and fertilised them with her husband’s sperms using the ICSI method. All the Grade-A blastocysts were biopsied and frozen and tested.

The test revealed that 4 of the embryos were free of the L1CAM mutation and these 4 were further analysed using a technique called PGS to check for any chromosomal abnormalities. Using these two techniques 2 out of the 11 extracted embryos were identified as normal. Pooja gave birth to full-term twin daughters.

Sharing her happiness, Pooja says, “Dr Rashmi assured me that she will ensure I have a normal child with the help of IVF and PGD/PGS. I have always met her with tears in my eyes and she has always ensured I walk out with a smile. With her invaluable help, I have not one but two healthy children today.”

Dr Rashmi Yogish, Founder, Medical Director and Lead IVF Consultant, Khushi Fertility & IVF Centre said, “We are extremely delighted to help Pooja have healthy babies!! PGT – M (PGD) and CES are new technologies that are helping IVF couples with debilitating genetic conditions have normal, healthy children. With an accuracy rate of 95 to 97%, they reduce the emotional and financial burden on the parents.”

“We do not advocate the PGD technology for every couple seeking IVF treatment. We recommend the technologies only for those couples who have suffered repeated pregnancy losses, IVF failures or those who have a history of having given birth to a child with genetic abnormalities.” She added

Khushi Fertility & IVF Centre is a hi-tech fully equipped IVF centre run by Dr Rashmi Yogish MS (OBG), Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine. Infertility though a common problem has a lot of social taboos and hence discussing or speaking about it in public space affects the mental and emotional health of both the parents. According to Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction, almost 10-14% of Indian population suffers from infertility, estimating roughly around 1 in every 6 couples in urban India. Dr. Purohit provides this balancing space to her patients by maintaining a complete confidentiality and addressing every fear and apprehension of the would-be new parents opting for IVF treatment.

In addition to her specialisation in all the above areas, she is well trained and offers affordable treatments and procedures related to Test tube baby, Blastocyst, Donor service, Surrogacy, Hysteroscopy, Pregnancy deliveries, Gynaecological Cancer detection and treatment, Irregular periods, Leukorrhea, Menopause, Miscarriage, Hormonal treatments as well as Family Planning.

She has also completed her Yoga teacher training from Sri Sri School of Yoga in 2020. As a certified Yoga trainer, she has started conducting yoga sessions with her patients in both online and offline mode to help them restore the mind and body balance which is very crucial during and after fertility treatments.

Apart from patients who visits her at the hospital, Dr. Rajpurohit is also largely involved with welfare services in her community and nearby areas making gynaecology treatment accessible for those who cannot afford it. She has operated on patients as a part of Free Laparoscopy Surgery camp, conducted Safai Abhiyan at Jawai Bandh under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (2017),  provides free medical services at a primary health care centre in Falna, Rajasthan as well as free food facilities for the less privileged. Apart from this, she is trying to promote the lesser known place of Jawai through medical tourism and spread awareness about the place which is also known as ‘India’s Leopard Hills’.

One’s effort and sincere dedication never goes unrewarded and recognising her endless efforts towards the benefits of the society, she was awarded the ‘Social Impact Award for providing free Healthcare services to the society’ by actress & MP, Kirron Kher and Delhi BJP Leader, Manoj Tiwari at the Constitution Club of India in 2019. She was also recognised as the ‘Most Promising Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in Rajasthan’ by Ministry of AYUSH and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India in 2015.

Dr. Rajpurohit is also a proud member of FOGSI (The Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India), a renowned associate member of Royal College of Obs & Gynae (London, UK) and also a member of Rajasthan Medical Council, Jaipur. She is an active participant of AICOG which is the distinguished medical conference conducted under the aegis of FOGSI.

Dr. Anita believes that even though advancement in medical science and technology has made infertility a problem of the past, it has its challenges as well. The procedure is not yet full proof and successful at all times. However she believes that proper counselling, awareness and patience on both the patient and doctor’s end will help in making the entire process easier and healing.

  • ‘India Happiness Quotient Research’ by Vieroots points out that -Happiness and Health are complementary.

Kerala, [India]: Realising the fact that the pandemic has also infected human happiness, despite the higher family time. Vieroots envisioned spreading out the importance of staying healthy for a happy life and staying happy for a healthy life.

Vieroots Wellness Solution is a health-tech start-up and pioneer in personalized lifestyle management using epigenetic science. A team of experts steered the research spearheaded by its Chairman and Managing Director, Dr. Sajeev Nair on the eve of International Day of Happiness promoted by the United Nations. The survey covered 10 states of India and 26,302 Employed and Unemployed people of different age groups were interviewed on ‘India Happiness Quotient on the Pandemic Times’ through a digital research method.

The key observations were, the pandemic has affected the happiness quotient of people in a missed bag. While unhappiness due to income-related stress and lack of leisure has increased, it is partly offset by better family bonding and better health consciousness. Better health initiatives can be seen as long-term happiness providers that can overcome even the pandemic-driven stress and unhappiness. Better health can also drive productivity which can offset financial stress effectively

    • Covid has made 84% of people highly conscious about health.
    • Covid has made family bonding stronger in 73.4% of people.
    • Happiness derived by being with family outweighed the sadness due to lack of fun and travel during Covid times
    • Covid has made 70% of the employed people unhappy with lack of income and work stress.

“High Happiness Quotient is achieved by having good physical health which allows you to play and enjoy the sensory side of life, high emotional and intellectual quotient which engage and disengage your mind at the right times, and a high Spiritual Quotient which helps to connect with yourself, others and the infinite intelligence,” said Dr. Sajeev Nair, ChairmanVieroots Wellness Solution Pvt Ltd, who led the research.,

Vieroots research found that lack of adequate finance and leisure avenues on one hand, and mounting health issues on the other, during the COVID-19 pandemic in India have led to increased unhappiness in life for a majority of people

    • “India Happiness Quotient on the pandemic times” report points out “Happiness and Health are complementary” and one enhances the other.
    • The survey covered 10 states of India and 26,302 people | released as a part of celebrating United Nation’s International Day of Happiness. UN Resolution A/RES/66/281
    • The 3-day celebrations starting from March 20 – 22 include sessions from psychologists, Doctors, and subject experts in the field of health, happiness, and harmony.

What drives unhappiness is poor health & finances. Vieroots is more interested in solutions, and we believe finance & health are synergistic. The healthier we are, the more productive we can be, and more financially secure & happier. And the more financially secure we are, can we invest more in our health to sustain it. • UN’s World Happiness Report seems faulty India placed 139 out of 149 countries but contributes vaccines to the world.

New Delhi, [India]: Internationally acclaimed futurist and psychologist Dr. Jawahar Surisetti commented on the UN World Happiness Report 2021 as being faulty. He was reacting to India being placed 139 out of the 149 countries. He put forth a plethora of facts to substantiate his argument and even went to the extent of saying that he is in the process of launching a World Happiness Report by the end of this year, Happiness being a combination of Happiness and Peace.

Enumerating the fact that makes him feel that the Happiness Report seems faulty, he listed down the anomalies in the procedure. Firstly, the fact that life after COVID is the basis of the report, India manufacturing 60-70% of vaccines consumed by the world and supplying vaccine to many countries, free of cost to many, is an act that is causing happiness throughout the world and is not factored here. Causing happiness to the world at large should be to the credit of India too and could count in the generosity too. So the life after COVID basis in which India played a major role as acknowledged by the WHO chief is a factor that is largely ignored and would have put India miles ahead of other countries.

Secondly, the various indices of performance do not subscribe to this low ranking: eg, Climate change performance index we are 9th, Startup Ecosystem Ranking we are 23, World Competitiveness Index and World Digital Competitiveness Index we are 43 and 44 respectively, we are in the top 10 countries in the Wealth Creation and are ranked 6th. Migrants from Bangladesh and other countries do not wish to leave India and go back to their home country because they are happy here. These factors are being mentioned here because these are the components of the World Happiness Index and do not justify the 139th rank.

The last mail in the coffin is China being in the 19th position. Post-COVID the world view on China is known. As per the UN and even the people, democracy is a preferred form of governance. The world views China as the originator of Covid and China remains a bully and aggressor in the Asian region with the stories of aggression on Tibet, Hongkong, India, and many others are well known. China is also known for its control of the media and people’s voices. In these circumstances, when a survey was conducted how could the people’s opinion be reached and how do we know that these voices are not acting on the force. Also, when an aggressor creates so much strife and unhappiness in the world how can it be termed as happy. The fact that China disrupts peace in the world through its actions and it is in the top 20 of the Happiness Index makes the index suspect to its veracity. Also, Pakistan which is known as a rogue state for harboring terrorism is ranked above India.

There might be many countries where there might be erratic rankings and these need to be set right. It’s not just about India but because of India’s contribution to world peace, it’s not a fair assessment to rank India so low, opines Dr. Jawahar.

There is a need of national plan backed by government to realize the dream of a cavity free nation. AtClove, on our 10th anniversary, we pledge to take charge of the dental health of 10 lac more people this year.”

The Clove story started in 2011, when Mr.Amarinder Singh, Founder & CEO, launched the first Clove Dental Clinic in Delhi with a vision to build an ethical, transparent and high-quality network of dental clinics across India.

Within few years, Clove Dental became the Largest Dental Chain in India & Asia. Clove’s 700+ dentists are highly experienced and most have specialized advanced degrees (MDS) to ensure that every Clove patient gets the right treatment in a high-qualityset up in an ethical manner. These clinicians have enabled us to earn the trust of more than 10 lac patients. Every Clove clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, follows stringent standardized clinical protocols and uses branded FDA, IMA & CE approved consumables. Clove Dental offers complete spectrum of Dental Solutions, from restorative treatments like fillings and root canal to Dental Implants and other complex Oral and maxillofacial surgery along with the latest smile designing treatment procedures at affordable prices.

The clinical network has grown based onstrict adherence to the highest standards in asepsis, sterilization, and disinfection with a constant focus on ethics and transparency. Without these fundamental pillars of operations; Quality, Convenience and transparency in pricing, providing dental treatment to 10 lac patients would be impossible.

“Keeping in view the sharp focus that we had on enabling best customer experience, we increased our presence in every neighborhood with clinics being operational even on weekends. Most people are scared to visit dentists & to address that we introduced a warm and friendly Café style clinic design look to our clinics with soothing ambience to reduce the anxiety during a dental visit”, said Mr. Singh.

Lt Gen Dr Vimal Arora, Chief Clinical Officer, Clove Dental said “What sets Clove Dental apart is its commitment to provide quality dental care with a zero-compromise policy on safety & hygiene standards. During COVID pandemic, Clove was the only chain of dental clinics to continue providing emergency services from few assigned clinics following stringent protocols. Clove enhanced its already comprehensive safety protocols and launched the ‘10x Safety Protocols’which are now trademarked. We also deployed safety equipment like Aerosol suction & decontamination unit and Constant fumigation device to ensure a completely sterile & hygienic clinical environment in all its clinics. These 10XSafety Protocols have been requested and adopted by many dental set ups across the globe and acknowledged internationally. The stringent safety protocols also include the4-step sterilization process of instruments which was trademarked way back in 2015 and practiced in all clinics. These processes are a testament to our highest safety and sterilization standards. The autoclaved and sealed pouches of instruments are opened in front of the eyes of the patient to instill confidence in its processes.“

“I have always believed that to celebrate a milestone we have to celebrate the journey. In healthcare, every day is a learning experience and in the last 10 years we have learnt so much from our doctors & patients and we continue to grow &deploy new equipment, processes, and technology to provide an unparalleled clinical experience.Clove plans to continue its expansion phase and envisions to add 100+ centers every year as the infrastructure deployment tries to catch up to the need which exceeds 2500 new clinics every year in India.” said Mr. Singh.

On the occasion of World Oral Health Day & Clove Dental’s 10th Year anniversary, Clove dentists are renewing their commitment tooral health awarenessand pledging to take charge of the dental health of 10 lacmore people this year with its anniversary special dental health program.

  • World Oral Health Day 2021- Pledge to Get Healthy Mouth. Quit Tobacco Get tipson how to Free From Oral Cancer by OSMF Mouth Opening Kit

Use OSMF Mouth Opening Kit. Detect early, prevent early.

Ahmedabad, Gujarat [India]: This World Health Day, dentists and oncologists have gathered together to send out a powerful message — Be Proud Of Your Mouth. According to https://www.worldoralhealthday.org/, this message is the campaign theme for the years 2021-2023. Looking at the alarming report of growing cases of oral tumours and cancers, doctors want to inspire greater and better change by focusing on the paramount importance of oral health, one that seems innocuous but is rather deadly in nature.

According to dental oral oncosurgeon, restrictive mouth opening precedes most forms of oral cancer. Tobacco, pan masala, gutkha, khaini etc are known to be the chief culprits for this predicament. Avoiding tobacco has been a challenge even after huge price rises by the governments that have fallen on deaf ears. “But we are going to do something different this time. Because this time, the medical dental and healthcare professionals too will be involved in spreading the message on World Oral Health Day. Various events and campaigns are being held for the same. Apart from that, we are also organizing oral cancer screenings for people who’d visit”, said an activist for https://www.worldoralhealthday.org/. “We are going to use social media to the optimum to reach the people to help them quit tobacco, betel nuts etc. Wish we had a vaccine for this. Because this is, in all seriousness, a very avoidable disease”, said the activist.

Dr. Bharat Agravat’s OSMF Mouth Opening Kit that fully treats oral ulcerations, lichen planus, Xerostemia in mouth and restricted mouth opening is pushing to inspire the same change by focusing on the prime importance on maintaining oral health, right from maintaining clean teeth and gums to non-usage of any tobacco products of any variants. “We want you to live a healthy, disease-free life. • Taxation for Post-COVID RecoveryBy Dr. Lal Bhatia PhD.

Mumbai, Maharashtra [India] : Although it took a while, hopefully now Governments and Businesses around the world have come to realize that the coronavirus is not the same as the recession in 2008. While both significantly impacted the global economy, the drivers propelling the market crisis during Covid-19 are very different from what caused the recession in 2008.

As India and the world heads into a phase where the crisis wanes, policymakers have to increase the focus on the economic rebound for their respective countries. Tax policies are likely to play a significant role as the country steers its economy towards gradual recovery. Policies and measures taken now would have an impact on tax systems in the future.

Taxation is ‘a key ingredient in the social contract between citizens and the economy’ (Doing Business, 2018). In the sight of the pressing need of the hour to move towards economic recovery, governments will have to pay closer attention to how taxes are raised and spent.

Deloitte’s report ‘Recovery from the COVID-19 crisis: What role will tax policy play’, discusses that tax will play a key role in restoring the public finances of countries. While growth focus is imperative, it will be ideal to do this by offering support for healthy growth, including stimulus packages that will in turn help expand tax revenues.

EY Global Vice Chair – Tax, Kate Barton compellingly presents, “as the tax ecosystem continues to evolve, tax authorities are not only experiencing substantive change but also driving it”.

Tax and Fiscal Policy in Response to the Coronavirus Crisis, a report by OECD, outlines that ‘tax policy can contribute to covering the costs of the crisis’.

The case for increased tax revenue is understood but the timing and how it is done are critical as businesses and individuals are keen to get back up and running. Taxes cannot afford to be perceived as an added burden to pandemic-struck industries and businesses in the country that are exhausted from being cautious of the COVID-19 blade of uncertainty hanging over the head. Barton of EY wisely states, “eventually, governments will look to balance budget deficits and taxes will invariably rise – but timing those increases carefully will be crucial if governments are to drive growth”.

    Simple is key

A recent Doing Business study reveals that firms in economies that score better on the study’s ease of paying taxes indicators tend to perceive both tax rates and tax administration as less of an obstacle to business.

In their article “The Effect of Corporate Taxes on Investment and Entrepreneurship” for the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, Djankov, et al. point out that “economies with simple, well-designed tax systems can boost businesses activity and, ultimately, investment and employment”. Rabah Arezki and Grégoire Rota-Graziosi put it quite simply by saying that “designing taxes that are simple to administer is the way to go” for the post-COVID era.

    A supportive economy

Another pragmatic approach would be to plan for a sustainable source of increased tax revenue from growth through increased business activity, profits, and increased employment.

What are the potential sources that India and other developing nations can tap into to increase tax revenue? One solution need not fit all in this case. Specific groups of individuals and large corporations could be targeted through increased income tax rates and/or base-broadening measures, new minimum taxes, wealth taxes, and other indirect taxes such as Digital Services Taxes (DSTs).

    Incentives to drive investments

During the pandemic, digital emerged to become imperative for the survival of organizations, and individuals. Tax policies that incentivize digital infrastructure and operations can assist in encouraging investment in these areas (Deloitte.)

“For governments looking to drive economic recovery after the pandemic, supporting such digital competitiveness will be key. One way is through foreign direct investment (FDI) in the digital economy”, Matthew Stephenson and Nivedita Sen, World Economic Forum.

Turning into an FDI hub while aiming for economic recovery will not be a small feat for India. Multiple aspects of the economy have to be conducive to encourage this. An all-around approach will be imperative to tap into this source of finance.

    T for transparency

For the post-COVID economy and going ahead, tax authorities and tax policymakers will have to embrace transparency and accountability in a new way. The need and importance of tax have to be communicated with all taxpayers in the country clearly and regularly.

    In short

Taxes will invariably rise but this is an opportunity to fix inconsistencies and inadequacies in the country’s tax system. Policymakers should be willing to identify and work on areas for improvement. It is important to ensure that chasing tax revenue does not cause further despondence in the economy. The post-COVID economy should foster a transparent and reliable tax ecosystem in India that has a clear grip on the bigger picture and be citizen-centric. Can that be achieved?
